Hello, my name is Matsu,

I’m a eight month old female Portuguese Water Dog. I arrived at The Mayhew because my owner was no longer able to look after me.

I’m a sensitive and sweet natured girl. Sometimes shy of new people but it doesn’t take long for me to make friends with people who are calm and gentle with me. I’ll bark at strangers who come to my home but regular visitors will be warmly welcomed. I love going to the park where I enjoy meeting up and playing with other dogs. I also travel well in the car and I know the basic commands which I respond well to. I’m a playful girl and I enjoy playing with my toys, especially when you join in the game. My favourite treat is a peanut butter filled Kong.

I’m now looking for a forever home with an active person or family who have owned dogs before and have researched my breed type. I can live with sensible children from ten years of age and upwards providing they are used to being around dogs and I could live with another dog who could tolerate my lively nature. I can also live with dog-confident cats. I’ll need a home where there is somebody around for most of the day and I’ll need to live in either a house or a ground floor flat with direct access to a garden. My new owners will be expected to continue my training, take me to training classes and provide me with a minimum of one hour of active off-lead exercise every day. If you’re interested in adopting me you will need to be fully prepared for the hard work and long-term commitment involved in caring for a dog, you’ll be taking on a fourteen year commitment which must not be taken lightly.
